The Hopkins County Central Lady Storm and the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers went into their game against one another in very different situations. Dawson had lost their last game while Central won theirs, and it was the latter who was able to keep their streak going with a dominating 64-18 win.

The Lady Storm got started very early in the first quarter with a 10-0 run by the time the fours four minutes had elapsed. That run grew all the way to 18-0 before Dawson Springs was able to stop it with an Alyssa Allison layup with a minute left.

Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers, their turnovers struggles in the period led to that being their only basket in the first eight minutes, and the Lady Storm took full control with a 23-2 lead after one.

The second was a bit more even, as Dawson was able to keep up much better with Central in the first four minuted of the quarter. They started out with a pair of threes from Briley Sawyer, which already tripled their point total from the first.

But in the latter half of the second, the Lady Storm were able to get back into the drivers seat. They continued to extend their lead, and a floater from Sa’Nya Carney in the final seconds gave them a commanding 43-12 lead going into the locker room.

There were just four total points in first half of the third quarter, and all four of them came from Hopkins Central. That trend continued the rest of the period, with the Lady Storm outscoring Dawson 12-0 in quarter.

The two teams traded some threes to start the fourth, but all it took from Central was nine points to close out the game and get the commanding victory.

This is now the 18th time in a row that Hopkins County Central has beaten Dawson Springs, with the Lady Panthers’ last win against the Lady Storm being back in February of 2018.

The leading scorer in the game for Central was Calajia Mason with 21 points, as she was able to get to the rim seemingly at will. Tyah White was also able to get into double-digits with 14 of her own over the course of the game.

As for the Lady Panthers, Sawyer led the way with eight points on a couple made three-pointers in the second quarter.

She will be looking to help Dawson Springs bounce back in their next game against Webster County on Thursday, February 5. That game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Dawson Springs High School.

On the flip side, the Lady Storm will be on the hunt for their third win in a row on Thursday against the Lady Mustangs of McCracken County. Their game will not begin until 8 p.m. at Hopkins County Central High School.
