
Alex Ray used a fast start and held off Murray’s Gabe Turley to win the 100-yard butterfly at Monday’s Region I Meet at Hopkinsville High School.
Ray trailed Turley, the defending region champion, by a half-second at the first turn but rallied to claim the win by .22 seconds with a time of 55.40 seconds.
In addition to his regional win in the butterfly, Ray finished in third place in the 100-yard backstroke in 59.89 seconds to qualify for the KHSAA State First Round on Saturday in Bowling Green.
Kole Knott came in seventh place in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:04.33 and 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:30.19.
As a team, Hopkins County Central finished in seventh place with 54 points.
For the ladies, Emma Frazier came in eighth place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:27.47.
Reese Richey finished in 10th place in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:26.54.
The girls’ team finished in ninth place with 18 points.
