Kirk LaGrange’s football journey began when he first touched a football at age 4, progressing through flag football and eventually high school.
The fabric he has woven will now include some purple, as the Madisonville-North Hopkins senior signed on Wednesday to play college football at Kentucky Wesleyan College.
The ceremony in front of family and friends capped a whirlwind senior year that saw LaGrange receive countless offers and take campus visits to see what was available. But in the end, it was the Owensboro school, less than an hour from Madisonville, that appealed to him most.
LaGrange led the Maroons in tackles (125), solos (89), and tackles for loss (18) while tying for the lead in interceptions (4) and fumble recoveries (2).
“He’s always been the guy that wants to lead and be a leader, and that’s the reason that we always call him ‘Cap.’ There’s a reason why he wore the special (No. 1) team jersey. Number One only goes on the guys that we know are gonna try to do it the right way — not just on the field but off the field,” said Madisonville head coach Chris Price.
“I’m thankful for the fact that I get to say that I had a chance to coach you because I know what’s about to happen for you at the next level. I know for a fact that Kentucky Wesleyan is getting a steal,” Price told him just before he signed.
LaGrange got to share the day with his teammate and best friend, Kaden Vickery, who also signed with KWC. The two will be roommates in college.
“These guys have built a foundation for young men who are following behind them, and more importantly, they left their mark. And so, saying that I’m proud is an understatement,” Price said.
