Vikings Sail Past Madisonville-North Hopkins 85-67

St. Mary rode a hot start to an early double-digit lead and added a high-scoring fourth quarter on the way to an 85-67 victory at Madisonville-North Hopkins on Thursday.

The streaking Vikings won their fourth straight behind big scoring nights from Griffin Mayes and Ja’Cobi Nichols, while the Maroons lost their second in a row to slip to 3-18 on the year.

Mayes provided the early scoring punch with 14 points in the first quarter for the Vikings. Andrew Puckett added a pair of three-pointers for a 27-14 St. Mary advantage.

Lake Sumner led a second-quarter surge with nine points for the Maroons, and Orion Underwood capped an 11-point first half to trim the margin to five points at the halftime break.

St. Mary restored its double-digit lead with eight points in the third from Nichols before Jack Griffith chipped in nine to fuel a 24-point fourth quarter for the Vikings.

Mayes finished with 29 to lead all scorers, joined in double figures for the Vikings by Nichols with 24, and Griffith with 18.

Underwood led the way for the Maroons with 20. Sumner finished with 15, and Jeremiah Lewis and Myles Adler each scored 12.

Madisonville will return to the court on Saturday for a visit from Calloway County.
