The Logan County Cougars clinched the #1 seed in the upcoming 13th District Tournament by dismantling Todd County Central 70-47 on Senior Night in Elkton Friday Night.
After a competitive first quarter saw the Cougars hold an 18-17 advantage, the Rebels took the lead briefly 19-18 early in the second, but, between pressure defense from Logan County and cold shooting by Todd Central, the Rebels could manage four additional points in the quarter and Logan County pulled away for a 35-23 halftime lead and never looked back.
Logan County freshman Joe McTire led the charge finishing with 12 points in the first half en route to a 20-point game. McTire, who came into the game averaging 6.4 points on the season, apparently enjoys playing against the Rebels as he tallied 15 points in the first meeting with Todd Central three weeks prior to the rematch.
Davis Switzer led the way for Logan County who improved to 14-9 on the season and 5-0 in the district. With Logan hosting the district this year, the Cougars will be the team to beat.
Freshman Spencer Pool was the only Rebel in double figures with 14 points for Todd Central who saw their three-game winning streak snapped. Todd County dropped to 6-16 overall and 1-3 in the district.
The Rebels will travel to Franklin-Simpson on Tuesday, February 10, to make up the game postponed from Friday, January 30. The two teams are tied at 1-3 in the district.
