Lyon County went into their game against Grayson County at the Akridge Shootout looking to bounce back from their loss at home in their last game against Henderson County. They were able to do exactly that with a 65-55 win where they really turned it on in the second half.

The Lyons started out the first quarter with a solid 7-2 run that helped them take an early lead. Nolan Coffman scored nine in the period, which led Lyon County to a 16-12 lead going into the second.

There was more back and forth buckets where the Lyons were able to gradually extend their lead, but a 9-0 Grayson run gave the Cougars a 26-24 lead. But by the end of the quarter the Lyons had gotten their lead back and went into the locker room up by one.

There were a few lead changes to begin the third, but Lyon still held a three point lead with less than two minutes left to play. And that’s when they really turned it on.

Across the end of the third and the early stages of the fourth, Lyon was able to go on a 19-0 run to take complete control of the game.

After that, all it took was the Lyons keeping the Cougars at bay and closing the game out to get their 13th win in their last 14 games.

They were also able to snap Grayson County’s winning streak, which was at 13 games.

Grayson County and Lyon County have played three times in the last 23 years, and this is the first time in that span that the Lyons have been able to come out on top.

Coffman and Bray Kirk led the way for Lyon in the game with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Isaac Defew was also able to get into double-digits with 13, 10 of which he scored in the fourth quarter.

Lyon County will be looking to start a new win streak in their next game against the Maroons of Madisonville-North Hopkins. That game will be played at 7:30 p.m. at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.
