
The Trigg County Lady Wildcats are getting something out of this year’s team that failed them last year – a strong finish to games.
The Lady Wildcats closed on a 7-0 run to defeat Livingston Central 51-44 Monday night in Smithland. The Lady Wildcat win wraps up the number three seed in the 5th District Tournament that begins in two weeks at Crittenden County High School. Trigg County will play second-seeded Lyon County, while top-seeded Crittenden County will face fourth-seeded Livingston Central in the semifinals.
Trigg County grabbed an early 15-9 lead only to see the Lady Cardinals respond with a 15-6 run to end the half. Shaky ball security led to Trigg turning the basketball over 12 times in the first half, resulting in eight Livingston Central points.

The Lady Cardinals led 24-21 at halftime and 38-32 after three quarters.
Trigg County flipped a switch to start the fourth quarter and was more aggressive in attacking the basket. The result was a 6-0 run in the first minute of the fourth quarter to tie the game.
Livingston Central was able to counter Trigg County’s punches with a few uppercuts of its own. Emma Wring hit a 3-pointer with 1:15 left to give Livingston a 44-43 lead, but it would be the final points for the Lady Cardinals.
A.J. Navarro hit a 3-pointer from the right wing with 1:02 left to put Trigg up 47-44, and Veyda Grinolds added a layup with 45 seconds left to seal the win.
The Lady Wildcats outscored Livingston Central 19-6 in the fourth quarter to finish off the regular season sweep of the Lady Cardinals.
Trigg County had three players scoring double figures, led by Navarro, who posted her first career double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Double-doubles are nothing new for Grinols, who notched her 12th of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Cali Jones scored nine of her 13 points in the fourth quarter and pulled down four of her seven rebounds in the final frame.

Trigg County only shot 32% for the game, but went to the free throw line 20 times in the second half. They hit 10.
Livingston Central used a strong outside game early to stay close and hit 7 of 29 from long range.
Taylor Leahy led Livingston Central with 10 points, all in the first half. She also had six steals. Brooklyn Collins also had 10 points for the Lady Cardinals.
Livingston Central (4-15) will host Union County on Tuesday and play at Dawson Springs on Thursday.
Trigg County (10-10) will travel to Caldwell County on Tuesday. Their Thursday game against Muhlenberg County has been canceled, so they will host Caldwell County on Friday.
