It was an uphill battle for most of the night for Caldwell County’s girls at Trigg County.
After falling behind in the first half Friday at Wildcat Gym, the Lady Tigers found themselves trying to play catch-up for the rest of the game.
But each time Caldwell got close, Trigg seemed to have any answer to hold the Lady Tigers at bay.
When the Lady Wildcats opened up a seven-point lead at 45-38 with less than 4 minutes to play, it looked like Trigg was on the verge of avenging a loss earlier in the week in Princeton.
However, a 3-pointer from way downtown by Tink Clark gave Caldwell a boost with 47 seconds to play and trimmed the Trigg lead to 46-45.
Caldwell (11-11) finally reached the summit with 33 seconds to go when Alaiyaa Shearer finished inside off a pass from Med Thomas to push the Lady Tigers in front 47-46.
Shearer made one of two free throws with 22 seconds to go to make it 48-46.

Caldwell then got one final stop at the defensive end, forcing an off-balance and contested 3-pointer from the top of the key by A.J. Navarro just ahead of the horn. Navarro couldn’t get the shot to go down as the Lady Tigers hung on for the two-point win.
Clark led the Caldwell charge with 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals. Shearer finished with 14 points and 10 boards. Ke’Darriah Thompson added nine points.
Trigg (10-12) got a double-double from Veyda Grinols, who totaled a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds along with six steals, and another double-double from Cali Jones, who had 10 points and 10 boards. Navarro recorded nine points, nine rebounds and five assists.
The Lady Wildcats led for most of the night after slipping ahead 14-12 after one quarter.
Trigg took a 25-23 lead to halftime and went up 38-33 through three quarters.
A Grinols bucket with 3:39 to play had the Lady Wildcats leading 45-38. But Trigg managed just one free throw the rest of the night.
Caldwell finished the game with a 10-1 burst to beat Trigg for the sixth straight time.

The game was designated the Chappel Allen Memorial Shootout. Clark and Grinols were selected the Player of the Game from their respective teams.
The Lady Tigers will next head to Webster County on Tuesday.
Trigg’s girls will go to Owensboro Apollo on Saturday.
