
Two Caldwell County Lady Tiger wrestlers are headed to the state tournament after runner-up showings at the girls’ Region 1 Tournament at Union County on Saturday.
Senior Keirli Herran and sophomore Virginia Stewart will compete at the KHSAA State Wrestling Championships in Lexington in two weeks after reaching the finals of the regional.
Herran blew through her first three matches at 145 pounds on Saturday, claiming all by first period pins to reach the championship match.
Herran then just missed an early pin attempt againts Bardstown’s Kathryn Floyd in the final before Floyd came back to win by pin at 1:52.

Stewart also claimed three wins by pin at 185 to reach the championship match in her weight class. Her only loss came to Trigg County’s Makenna Hendricks in the first-place match. Hendricks won by pin at 1:49.
Two other Lady Tigers wrestled in the fifth-place match at the regional.
Alyvia Barnwell placed sixth at 120. Barnwell won her first two matches to reach the semifinals but finished the day 2-3.
Emilee Klidzejs finished sixth at 126. She went 3-3, getting back to the fifth-place match out of the consolation bracket.

Caldwell placed ninth out of 27 schools in the team standings with 77 points.
John Hardin (170) was champion with North Hardin (157.5) runner-up. Henderson County (128.5) took third.
The girls’ state tournament is Saturday, Feb. 28.
