The Dawson Springs Panthers and the Todd County Central Rebels went into their matchup against one another on Monday evening in two very different situations. Dawson had won their last game against Heritage Christian while Todd Central had lost their last four.

Both of those streaks continued, as the Rebels were able to get the win over the Rebels 60-55 on their home floor.

Dawson Springs got started on building their lead right away in the first quarter, outscoring Todd 16-11 in the first eight minutes. Conner Holder made a pair of three-pointers for the Rebels, but Jaydon Plunkette matched that with a couple of his own to lead the Panthers to a five point lead.

The second period was closer, being tied 14-14 in terms of points. Noah Riley and Ethan Slaton both scored four for Dawson, while Elijah Wilson put the Rebels on his back with 10 of the team’s 14 points in the quarter.

With all of that scoring, the Panthers still went into the halftime break up by five points.

Todd County Central came out of the locker room looking for revenge from the first two quarters, and they got it. They erased the deficit and took the lead 41-39 by the end of the quarter, and they did so behind a trio of three-pointers from Noah Rager.

The fourth and final quarter was where the game was decided, and it saw Dawson’s Plunkette score seven and help his team outscore Todd 21-14. This gave them the lead back and propelled them to the five point victory.

This was the first time since February of 2021 that Dawson Springs had beat Todd County Central, as the Rebels had taken the last two meetings in the all-time series.

The leading scorer in the game for the Panthers was Plunkette who finished with 17 points, and he did so with three made shots from beyond the arc. Easton Bourland and Slaton both also got into double-digits with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

For the Rebels, three players scored at least 10, with Holder leading the way with 16. The other two to get into double-digits were Rager with 12 and Wilson with 10.

Todd Central will be hoping that they can bounce back in their next game against the Colonels of Christian County on Tuesday, February 17. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Christian County High School.

As for Dawson Springs, they will be looking to extend their win streak in their next one on Tuesday against the Crittenden County Rockets. That game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Crittenden County High School.
