The Christian County girls’ basketball team will enter the postseason next week on the back of a five-game winning run after clipping hosts Logan County 53-50 on Thursday. The top-seeded Lady Colonels will look to defend their 8th-District title after closing the regular season with a 13-9 mark.

Reese Wetton got the Lady Cougars out to an early lead with seven first-quarter points. Carliah Hobson scored four for the Lady Colonels, but they trailed by a bucket after the opening frame.

Christian County turned up the defensive pressure to hold Logan County to only nine points in the second quarter. Anaysia Bagwell and Aaliyah Bell combined for nine points to give the Lady Colonels a 31-25 halftime advantage.

However, Christian County went cold in the third quarter, and Alissa Hampton and Avery Thompson teamed up for nine points to help the Lady Cougars erase the six-point deficit and tie the game with a quarter to play.

As she has so many times, Bagwell came through in the clutch with five points for the Lady Colonels, and Aaliyah Bell nailed a three as the clock expired to edge the Lady Cougars 15-12 and secure the victory.

Carliah Hobson led all scorers with 15 points, followed for the Lady Colonels by Bagwell with 12, and Aaliyah Bell with 11.

Logan County slipped to 16-14 with its third-straight defeat despite 14 points from Wetton. Brenley Adler also reached double figures with 11, but was held scoreless in the second half.
