Caldwell Secures Winning Season but Fight Finishes Game Early

Caldwell County’s girls secured a winning record Friday night, but it wasn’t exactly how they would have liked to wrap up the season.

The Lady Tigers defeated Livingston Central 35-20 at the CAB gym in Princeton in a game that was stopped early in the third quarter after a fight.

The victory puts Caldwell at 13-11 heading into postseason play.

But the Lady Tigers will be minus one starter when the 7th District tournament is played next week in Mortons Gap.

Caldwell’s Alaiyaa Shearer and Livingston’s Nevaeh Jennings became entangled while chasing a loose ball out of bounds. The two players exchanged blows, resulting in a stoppage of play.

That came with 7:21 remaining in the third period. The game is official with Caldwell getting the win.

However, Shearer and Jennings will have to sit out the next two contests after being ejected, meaning they will each have to miss district tournament play next week.

As for the game, Caldwell used a 12-0 run in the first quarter to turn a 9-8 edge into a 21-8 advantage in what was a physical matchup.

It was 21-12 after one quarter, but the Lady Tigers got to halftime with a 33-20 lead.

The physical play finally boiled over after the break, bringing an early end to the contest.

Shearer and Tink Clark each had 10 points to lead Caldwell.

Brooklyn Collins hit three 3-pointers and had 11 points to top Livingston (7-19).

Caldwell’s girls will next face Madisonville-North Hopkins Monday night at 7:30 in the 7th District semifinals at Hopkins County Central.

Livingston will play host Crittenden County in the 5th District semifinals Monday at 6:00.
