The Lyon County Lyons were winners of four straight going into their Thursday evening matchup with St. Mary at home. That streak was able to continue and extend to five, as the Lyons got the commanding 86-67 win over the Vikings.

The first quarter started off very back and forth between the two teams. Lyon got off to a bit of a run in the final minute, but St. Mary fought back and went into the second quarter down just three points.

But the second quarter is where Lyon was able to start building their lead.

In just the first minute of the period, Lyon got off to a 5-0 start, and that run extended to 10-0 to force a Vikings timeout just two minutes in. But it did not stop there, as the Lyons’ run got all the way to 19-0, and was only stopped four minutes into the quarter by St. Mary’s Griffin Mayes.

The Vikings hit a three in the final seconds, but Lyon had already taken a 47-31 lead after their huge second quarter.

The lead grew to 20 following the halftime break, and it barely shrunk below that the rest of the game.

In the fourth, the Lyons put in their subs, which meant that every senior on the team was able to score on senior night. They also helped the team close out the game and get their fifth win in a row.

This is the sixth time in the last seven meetings between the two teams that Lyon has been able to come out on top, and the only win the Vikings got in that span was in the last meeting between the two teams in February of 2025.

Senior Bray Kirk led the way for Lyon County in scoring with an impressive 29 points, 18 of which he got in the first half. Three other players scored in double-digits for the team, those being Nolan Coffman with 19, Cooper Collins with 12, and Jett Reddick with 11.

They will be looking to help the team get their sixth win in a row in their next game against the Marshall County Marshals on Friday. This will be the final game of the regular season for Lyon, and will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Lyon County High School.
