Madionsville-North Hopkins’ Soriano Just Misses 100 Freestyle Finals

Madisonville-North Hopkins swimmer Sy Soriano just missed out on reaching the championship finals of the state swim meet Friday in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle in the 2026 KHSAA state swimming championships.

Soriano, who headed off to Lexington as the 5th seed for the event with a qualifying time of 46.56, finished his preliminary round swim in a time of 47.66. That time placed him 11th for the prelims, three spots below the cutoff line for Friday night’s finals.

Lincoln Hofmann, of Collegiate, had the fastest time of the prelims with a 45.41. Kellie Tobergte, of Murray, who edged out Soriano in the first round of the state swim meet in Bowling Green, finished second.

Soriano also swam in the Boys 200 Yard Free, finishing in a time of 1:48.77, which placed him 20th in the prelims.

The Maroons Boys 200 Medley Relay team of Sy Soriano, Gavin Bunch, JD Brown, and Jude Gamblin, finished 21st in the preliminaries on Friday.

Madisonville-North Hopkins’ entry in the Boys 200 Free Relay was disqualified during the preliminaries.

In girls competition, Addison Howard finished the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:06.34 placing her 24th for the girls’ meet.
