The Dawson Springs Panthers had won four games in a row going into their Friday evening matchup against Hickman County. Dawson was able to make the most of their home floor and get the 77-63 win over the Falcons in their final game of the regular season.
Cooper Burge scored five of the team’s 10 points in the first quarter of the game, but Hickman was ablate put up 17 in the first eight minutes to take a seven point lead going into the second period.
But the Panthers came right back in the second by getting more than double of the points they did in the first. The Falcons had a solid quarter as well with 20 points, but that did not match the 23 that Dawson was able to put up behind nine from Easton Bourland.
This allowed the Panthers to go into the locker room at half down just four despite their 10-point first quarter.
The scoring for Dawson Springs was spread around in the third quarter, and this helped them continue to erase the deficit and go into the final period down just two points.
Defense was the area where the Panthers were able to shine in the fourth quarter, and it led directly to points. Jaydon Plunkette, Noah Riley, and Bourland were able to get key steals and get out and run on the break to get some easy buckets.
This led the team to explode with 25 points to close out the game and get the victory in their final game of the regular season.
This was the second straight time that Dawson Springs has gotten the better of Hickman County, as the last win the Falcons were able to get in the all-time series was back in February of 2023.
All five of Dawson Springs’ starters were able to score in double-figures, with Riley leading the team with 20 points. Bourland and Burge put up 17 points, while Ethan Slaton and Plunkette scored 11 points of their own.
The Panthers will be back in action in 7th District action on Tuesday, February 24, against the Storm of Hopkins County Central. The game will be played at Hopkins County Central High School at 6 p.m.
