The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers basketball team has lost 13 games in a row going into their final game of the regular season against Russellville. But unfortunately for Hoptown, that streak continued with a 70-39 home loss to the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Tigers had a solid start in the first quarter with 11 points, 10 of which came from a combo of KaMya White and McKinzey Gentry. But that did not stop Russellville from scoring 15 and taking a four-point lead after the first eight minutes.

The Lady Panthers’ offense kept it going in the second quarter by outscoring Hopkinsville 21-8. One of the biggest factors in that was the Lady Tigers catching the turnover bug with a total of 31 over the course of the game.

This was a driving force in Hoptown going down 36-19 at the halftime break.

White scored six points in the third to lead the Lady Tigers, but Russellville’s Mariyah Merriweather scored eight to lead the Lady Panthers to outscore Hopkinsville 18-14.

After that, all it took was six points in the fourth quarter from Russellville to close out the game and hand the Lady Tigers a loss in their regular season game ever.

This was the second win that Russellville had gotten over Hopkinsville this year, and the last win the Lady Tigers were able to get over the Lady Panthers was back in December of 2015.

White led Hoptown in scoring over the course of the game with 14 points, eight of which came in the first half. Leauanna Wilkerson was also able to get into double-digits with 10 points of her own.

They will be looking to help lead the team to a bounce-back in their next game against the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons on Monday, February 23. Hopkinsville will be the host team for the 8th District Tournament, and their first game will begin at 6 p.m.
