
The head coaches of the teams that ended the regular season with the highest RPI in the Second Region, according to the KHSAA, have been named the KABC Region Coaches of the Year.
Ricky Baker, who made the move to basketball from the baseball diamond, guided Lyon County to a 24-6 record, which set a new single-season school record for victories. The Lady Lyons won the All A Classic regional championship and own wins over six 20-win teams — Calloway County (28-2), McCracken County (22-8), Carlisle County (21-7), Crittenden County (22-5), Lafayette (20-9), and East Carter (20-6).
The Lady Lyons open 5th District play on Monday night against Trigg County.

Tyler Smithhart led Henderson County to a 23-4 record, which included a 10-0 mark against Second Region schools. The Colonels are already in the region tournament and will play for the 6th District championship on Thursday, looking to win back-to-back region titles for the first time in school history.
Voting is done by the region’s head coaches through the Kentucky Basketball Coaches Association.
