The Caldwell County Tigers got off to a hot start on the way to a 20-6 victory over Heritage Christian Academy of Hopkinsville in scrimmage baseball action Tuesday at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.

The Tigers put up a seven-spot in the bottom of the first inning, then scored six more times in the second to go up 13-0.

Heritage Christian had a chance to grab an early lead when two walks and two wild pitches put runners at second and third with nobody out in the top of the first inning.

However, Caldwell starter Ethan Ramage struck out the next two batters and coaxed a slow roller back to the mound to get out of the jam.

Each team scored three times in the fourth to make it 16-3.

HCA got only as close as 16-5 before the Tiger sput up four runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the margin to 20-5.

The Warriors got one more run in the sixth before the game was stopped on the mercy rule.

Caldwell banged out 15 base hits in the contest.

Jase Sigler was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs batted in. Jack Roach was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI.

Derek Wilson and Ari Wells were each 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. Channing Puckett was 2-for-3 and drove in a run.

HCA had six base hits. Henry Bullard had the only extra-base hit with a double and also drove in two runs.

Five Caldwell pitchers struck out 14 but also walked eight.

Caldwell will host Carlisle County for preseason action on Thursday. The Tigers will open the regular season at Crittenden County on Monday.

Heritage Christian begins regular-season action Monday at Todd County Central.
