After eight years of soccer at the youth, middle school, high school, and travel level, Heritage Christian Academy senior Kallan Davis will continue his athletic and academic career at Union Commonwealth University.
Davis signed in front of family, teammates, and class members on Thursday afternoon, marking the next step for one of the most accomplished players in the history of the Warriors’ program.
The signing also comes after a senior season that nearly did not happen. As the smallest school competing in the region, Heritage Christian Academy entered the 2025 season facing concerns about having enough players to field a team.
Davis recruited several classmates and encouraged them to join the team so that HCA could field one. It was an act not lost on HCA Headmaster John Walsh, who said Kallan’s efforts reflected the qualities the school values most in its students.
“You mean so much to this school,” Walsh said. “You are the best at what it means to be a Warrior, and I think your classmates recognize that. You are the best at what it means to be a Warrior because of your scholarship. The fact that you’re pursuing higher education in business shows that you’re academically focused.”
Walsh also pointed to Kallan’s leadership and relationships with his teammates.
“You are the best at what it means to be a Warrior because of your character,” Walsh said. “What impressed us most was your willingness to work with younger players to provide lessons, and when you were able to recruit your classmates so they could come out and play to make sure you had your senior season. That speaks to your character. It speaks to your encouragement. It speaks to your relationships and leadership with these students.”
While it could have been easy to transfer to another school with no questions on whether a team would hit the field in the fall, Davis said that wasn’t an option.
“I love the people here. All of my best friends are here. I’ve known them since the second grade, and you know I didn’t really want to have a last school season if I wasn’t playing with them,” he said.
Davis earned All-District honors three times and was named to the All-Region Team twice. He was also named to the National Christian School Athletic Association Southeast Super Region Team.
Davis also received Heritage Christian Academy’s Warrior Award following the 2025 season, one of the school’s highest honors given to a student who demonstrates leadership, character, and commitment to the school community.
Assistant coach Bobby Spurling said Davis’ impact on the team went beyond statistics.
“He has skill that is just unbelievable,” Spurling said. “He added so much value to our team, not just in his skill, but in his leadership and his encouragement to younger players and players who may not have as much skill. He had a lot of patience, and even though these players tried their best, he came here and gave his best to us. We are so proud of him, proud of the man he’s becoming, and proud of the man he will be.”
Davis will join a men’s soccer program at Union Commonwealth in Barbourville, Kentucky, that competes in the NAIA’s Appalachian Athletic Conference.
He plans to study business administration with a minor in marketing.
