Madisonville-North Hopkins used a six-run 2nd inning on Thursday to race out to a big lead and weather a late surge from Webster County on the way to a 9-5 five-inning scrimmage victory.

Singles by Nevaeh Lindle, Kylie Watkins, and Kendall Patterson set the table for Sadie Kirk in the top of the 2nd, and the freshman homered to left field to hand the Lady Maroons a 6-0 advantage.

Madisonville took advantage of two Webster County errors and a passed ball to add three more runs in the 5th, before surviving five runs from the Lady Trojans in the bottom of the inning.

Kirk earned the win in the circle with three innings of work, allowing a pair of walks and striking out seven.  Kirk also drove in three runs, Sophie Frailley finished with two hits, and Prow and Watkins each collected two hits and drove in a run.

Layla Scott doubled and drove in two runs for the Lady Trojans. Natalie Eversole took the loss after giving up six earned runs on six hits with a strikeout in one and a third innings.

The Lady Maroons will be on the road at Lyon County to open the regular season on Monday. Webster will also open away from home with a trip to Trigg County.
