Madisonville-North Hopkins outhit hosts McCracken County 6-4 on Friday night, but couldn’t overcome five errors in a narrow 5-4 opening-night defeat.
Sydney Skeen’s RBI single gave the Lady Maroons a 1-0 advantage in the top of the 3rd, but Eastyn Walker doubled in a run to tie the game in the 4th and came home on a Madisonville error to put the Lady Mustangs in front for good.
Back-to-back Lady Maroon errors allowed two more runs to cross in the 5th, and Walker’s single led to another Madisonville miscue to give McCracken a 5-1 lead.
The Lady Maroons answered with four runs in the top of the 6th to trim the margin to a single run. Kylie Watkins doubled in a run ahead of another on a fielder’s choice, and Sadie Kirk followed with an RBI single to make it 5-4.
Kirk sat the Lady Mustangs down in order in the bottom of the 6th, part of a five-run, two earned, performance that included three walks and 12 strikeouts. But the Lady Maroons couldn’t get anything going in their final at-bat, closing the game with three consecutive strikeouts.
Addley Leidecker earned the win in the circle, surrendering two earned runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five and a third innings. Addison Dudley came on in relief, giving up two earned runs on two hits with a walk and a trio of strikeouts.
Walker was 3/3 at the plate with an RBI for McCracken, and Alyssa Knight had the Lady Mustangs other hit.
Kirk collected two hits, Watkins was 2/3 with an RBI, and Jazlyn Hampton and Skeen each drove in a run for the Lady Maroons.
