Another pitchers’ duel and another win for Christian County against a 1st Region opponent to open the 2026 baseball season. The Colonels got a great starting effort from Gage Montes and a solid relief effort from Deuce Embrey on their way to a 4-1 win over Graves County in the Colonels’ home opener Friday night.

After being limited to just one hit in the first three innings, the Colonels broke a 0-0 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Blake Boehman opened the inning with a double. Sebastian Dazey followed that with a single, and when the center fielder for the Eagles misplayed the ball, Boehman scored and Dazey advanced to 2nd base.

Preston Stokes reached on a two-out walk and then Graves County committed another error when the Colonels’ Jonathan Lewis laid down a bunt, allowing a pair of runs to score as Christian County extended the lead to 3-0.

A Christian County fielding error opened the door for the Eagles to score a run in the top of the 6th, cutting the lead to 3-1.

Graves County returned the favor in the bottom half of the inning, when an error allowed Sebastian Dazey to score after he had reached on a walk and then stole 2nd base, making the score 4-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning.

Things got a bit interesting as Graves County came to bat in the top of the 7th inning. Corey Toon opened the inning by reaching base on a Christian County error. Jase Henson walked to give the Eagles runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out.

But the rally ended their. Toon was caught stealing and Deuce Embrey picked up a pair of strikeouts as the Colonels closed out the win.

Blake Boehman led the way for Christian County, going 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Gage Montes and Sebastian Dazey had the other two hits for the Colonels.

Gage Montes started on the hill and went four innings, giving up no runs on one hit, striking out 8 and walking one. Deuce Embry entered the game in relief, going the final three innings, giving up one unearned run on one hit, striking out three and walking two.
