Blazers Fall to Purples Then Rebound by Beating Aces

A day in Owensboro resulted in a split for the University Heights Academy Blazers. UHA fell to Bowling Green and then rebounded with a solid win over Owensboro Catholic in games played at Chautauqua Park.

The opening game of the day for the Blazers saw three Bowling Green pitchers combined to throw a five-hit shutout as the Purples took a 6-0 win.

The Purples scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the second, plating three in the inning. Bowling Gren then added three more in the bottom of the fourth.

The Blazers had just two runners reach base over the final four innings of the game.

A.J. Hogart and Jackson Flynn were each 2-3 in the game for UHA. Ryan Luckey had the other hit for the Blazers.

Hayden Hunt got the start for the Blazers and was charged with the loss. Hunt, Josh Pace, Bryson Turner, and Jackson Flynn all saw action on the hill for UHA.

The Blazers came back in the second game of the day and picked up a win over Owensboro Catholic. UHA got a solid start from Jaiden Miles and a big relief effort from Bryson Turner as the Blazers knocked off the Aces 4-1.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when UHA broke through with a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead as Cadence Gibson smacked a two-run homer to left.

The Blazers extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the 5th when Jackson Flynn singled to short and then Hayden Hunt scored on an Aces error.

Owensboro Catholic came back with a run in the bottom of the 6th to trim the lead to 3-1.

However, the Blazers responded with an insurance run in the top of the 7th as Hayden Hunt scored on a dropped third strike to push the lead back out to three runs at 4-1.

Bryson Turner then shut the Aces down in the bottom half of the seventh to close out the win.

UHA was led by Cadence Gibson, who went 1-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Hayden Hunt, A.J. Hogart, Jackson Flynn, and Courtland Gibson added a hit apiece for the Blazers.

Jaiden Miles got the win on the mound for the Blazers. He went 5 ⅔ innings, giving up one run on four hits, striking out nine and walking two. Bryson Turner went 1 ⅓ innings in relief, giving up no runs on one hit, striking out none and walking none.

UHA is now 3-1 with Tuesday’s upcoming forfeit from Heritage Christian and will host Muhlenberg County Thursday evening.
