Drew Stevens struck out 10 and did not allow a base hit in six innings on the mound as Caldwell County defeated Union County 6-1 on Monday.

Scott Cortner tossed a one-two-three seventh inning as the Tigers finished off the no-hit win over the Braves at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.

An unearned run in the top of the sixth inning broke up the shutout, but Caldwell still improved to 4-2.

Cortner singled home two runs with two outs in the bottom of the first inning to stake the Tigers to a 2-0 lead.

Caldwell put together another two-out rally in the fourth inning, adding three more runs to go up 5-0.

Two runs came in on wild pitches, while Ari Wells drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run.

Caldwell picked up an unearned run in the sixth to make it a 6-1 ballgame.

Besides earning the win on the mound, Stevens finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate.

Cortner, Wells, Derek Wilson, Channing Puckett and Mitchell Phelps each singled once.

Union (1-2) has now dropped its last three games against Caldwell.

That has allowed the Tigers to move ahead in the all-time series 30-28.

Caldwell will begin 7th District action Tuesday against Hopkins County Central. That was originally scheduled as a road game for the Tigers, but the schools have swapped their home dates this week.

Caldwell will host Tuesday’s game while Hopkins Central will now play at Tigers in Mortons Gap on Thursday.
