
The Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons made an early-season 2nd Region statement Tuesday night at Elmer Kelley Stadium. After falling behind early, the Maroons scored eight unanswered runs to knock off Christian County 8-2 in a battle of teams expected to be among those contending for the regional title at the end of the season.
The Maroons took advantage of three Colonel errors, 4 walks, and a hit batter to score their 8 runs.
Christian County broke on top with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Colonels scored on RBI singles from Andrew Mayes and Layton Lindsey to take a 2-0 lead.

Madisonville came back with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Alex Richards scored on a ground out, cutting the Christian County lead to 2-1. The Maroons hung a four spot on the board in the bottom of the third. Two of the runs scored on Colonel errors. Alex Richards also drove in a run with a double to right.
Madisonville effectively put the game away with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ryder Sandidge drove in a run with a double to center and Brantley Harris drove in two with a single to right.
Sandidge finished the night 3-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Alex Richards was 2-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Brantley Harris ended up 1-4 with 2 RBIs.
Christian County was led by Gage Montes and Andrew Mayes. Montes was 2-4 while Mayes was 2-3.
Each team had 8 hits in the game. In the field, Christian County was charged with three errors for the night.
Drew Fincham started for Christian County (2-2) and was charged with the loss. He went three innings, giving up 8 runs, 5 of them earned, on five hits, striking out two and walking four.
Brantley Harris went the full game for the Maroons (2-2). He gave up two runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking two.
