The Christian County Colonels took on one of the top-ranked baseball teams in the country Friday and nearly picked up a big early-season win. The Colonels stood toe-to-toe with Farragut before dropping an 8-7 decision in Hoover, Alabama.

Christian County led most of the way from the third inning on until Farragut came up with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take an 8-6 lead.

Layton Creamer came up with a big single to right with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to score Gavin Mitchell when the outfielder misplayed the ball. Blake Boehman attempted to score and tie the game on the same play, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Christian County was then set down in order in the bottom of the 7th inning as Farragut took the come-from-behind win.

Gage Montes was 2-3 with a run scored for the Colonels (2-3). Gavin Mitchell was 2-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Blake Boehman and Andrew Mayes also had RBIs for Christian County.

Eddie Davis, Nolan Young, and Sebastian Dazey all saw action on the mound for the Colonels.
