The first-ever meeting between University Heights and Sayre turned out to be a dandy. Josh Pace’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored Courtland Gibson as the Blazers walked off an 8-7 win over the Spartans in Somerset.

The walk-off finish came after Sayre’s Lachlan Heinrich hit a two-out, two-run triple to tie the game in the top half of the inning.

Sayre took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second. UHA (5-1) came back to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the second and one more in the third.

The Spartans went back in front with a run in the top of the fourth to make it 4-3, but the Blazers responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to go back in front 6-4. The big hit in the inning was a two-run double from Ryan Luckey.

Luckey ended up 3-4 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Cadence Gibson and Josh Pace added two hits each, including Pace’s game winner.

Jackson Flynn picked up the win in relief on the mound. He went the final 3 ⅓ innings of the game, giving up three runs on two hits, striking out five and walking three.
