Heritage Christian Claims Volleyball Region Title

10-28-nelson

Heritage Christian Academy made quick work in beating Oak Ridge Christian 2-0 (25-5, 25-16) to claim the KCAA Region 1 volleyball title Saturday at Warrior Gym.

HCA scored the first 18 points of the match behind the strong serving of Allie Maternowski. Up 21-5, HCA scored the final four points for the set win.

The second set was closer as HCA led 14-10 and used an 8-0 run to push the lead out to 22-10 before claiming a 25-16 win.

Heritage Christian Academy (28-14) earns a first-round bye in the KCAA State Tournament with their region title. The Lady Warriors are ranked second in the latest KCAA Power Poll but got a four-seed, which puts them in the same side of the bracket as top-ranked Trinity. Making matters tougher for HCA, their first match will likely be against No. 5 seed Community Christian, who had the second-best KCAA record but was upset in their region finals by Cornerstone. HCA beat Community 2-0 in their only regular season meeting.

HCA’s first state tournament game will be Friday at 6pm at West Jessamine High School.
