
A move to a new district highlights an ambitious 2019 football schedule for the Christian County Colonels that includes games against two defending state champions.
Christian County will host Logan County for a scrimmage on Friday, Aug.9 and play Kenwood and Northeast the following week at Austin Peay.
The Colonels will open the regular season at Caldwell County on Aug. 23. Christian County edged the Tigers 11-6 in last year’s season opener. Caldwell was 8-4 last year.
In week two, Christian County welcomes Christian Academy-Louisville to the Stadium of Champions for the Toyota of Hopkinsville/Jerry Claiborne Bowl on Aug. 30. The Centurions were 15-0 and won the Class 2A state championship last year.
Christian County travels to Henderson County on Sept. 6 to face the northern Colonels. Henderson County, who beat Christian County 28-7 last year, finished 7-5 in 2018.
The Colonels welcome Madisonville to the Stadium of Champions on Sept. 13. The Maroons beat the Colonels 15-12 last year on their way to advancing to the Class 4A Region 1 title game.
The annual crosstown rivalry game between Christian County and Hopkinsville will be played Friday, Sept. 20. Christian County beat the Tigers 16-7 last year.
Christian County travels to Hendersonville, Tennessee to play Pope John Paul II High School on Sept. 27. The Knights were 6-6 last year.
Christian County begins district play Oct. 4 when they host Greenwood. The last game between the Colonels and Gators was in the first round of the 2012 playoffs, a game won Christian County 41-28. The Gators were 2-9 last year.
After their bye week Oct. 11, the Colonels play their second district game at Bowling Green on Oct. 18. The Purples ended Christian County’s season with a 29-7 win in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs. Bowling Green was 9-3 last year.
The Colonels close out district play Oct. 25 with a home game against South Warren, who won the Class 5A football title last year as part of a 15-0 season.
Christian County will travel to McCracken County on Nov. 1 to close out the regular season. The Mustangs beat the Colonels in 2013 and 2014 in their last meetings. The Class 6A Mustangs were 8-4 last year.
