On a three-game losing streak and dealing with injuries, the Caldwell County girls’ basketball team may have appeared primed for an upset in Tuesday night’s matchup with Dawson Springs, but after a tight first quarter the Lady Tigers built a double-digit lead and rolled 72-41 over the visiting Lady Panthers.  Caldwell’s second victory of the season over Dawson Springs moves their 7th-District record to 3-1, while the Lady Panthers slip to 0-5 against district competition.

Majah Hollowell scored the first 4 points of the game to give Caldwell an early advantage, but an Abby Ward corner 3-pointer put the Lady Panthers in front 7-6 with 3:00 left in the first.  A Hollowell layup restored the Lady Tiger lead, but Denisha Randolph connected on a 3-pointer and Macy Drennan knocked down a jumper in the final seconds to give Dawson Springs a 13-11 edge after the first quarter.

A Randolph jumper with 4:32 left in the half pulled Dawson Springs even, but it would be all Caldwell from there.  Jaggers scored on a layup off an assist by Bella McConnell for a 23-17 to give the Lady Tigers a 23-17 lead and force a Dawson Springs timeout, but the break didn’t kill the momentum.  From there, Caldwell closed the half on a 7-2 run, capped by a Karsyn Parker layup with :5 left for a 31-19 halftime cushion.

Caldwell put the game away early in the third quarter, with a Jaggers’ and-1 stretching the advantage to 21 points with 4:25 left.  Randolph scored 6 in the third for Dawson Springs, but Jaggers and Hollowell combined for 15 and the Lady Tigers led 53-28 after a corner 3 by Presley McKinney to close the quarter.

Randolph scored 6 more in the fourth on two of her five-total 3-pointers, but the Lady Panthers never threatened and Caldwell cruised to the 31-point victory.

Up next for Caldwell is a visit from Lyon County on Thursday, while Dawson Springs will host Community Christian the same night.
