Trigg County has finalized its 2020 football schedule with a first-time opponent on the slate to conclude the regular season.

The KHSAA voted last month to begin the season Sept. 11, which effectively removed the first three weeks of the regular seasons.  They capped the regular season at nine games and delayed the start of the playoffs to the second week of November.  That meant schools could fill previously scheduled bye weeks and the weekend of Nov. 6 with games to reach the nine-game limit.

Trigg County filled its former bye week with a home contest with Marshall County on Oct. 9.  The Marshals, a Class 6A school, were 2-9 last year. The schools last played in 2016, which was a 58-14 Marshals win at Perdue Field.  Trigg is 6-9 all-time against Marshall County.

The Wildcats also filled its Nov. 6 date with a road game at Warren Central.  The Dragons were 0-10 last year for first-year coach and Hopkinsville native Cary Fowler.  Warren Central has lost 45 straight games dating back to 2015.

The game with Warren Central will be the first between the schools on the gridiron. Trigg went 6-0 against Warren County High from 1961-66 and has met each of the other high schools in Warren County at least once.

Trigg County opens the 2020 season Sept. 11 at Perdue Field against Ballard Memorial, a team they beat 46-8 last year.

Trigg County has road games at Murray on Sept. 18 and begins district play at Paducah Tilghman Sept. 25.  The Wildcats will host Crittenden County on Oct. 2.

The Wildcats’ final regular-season game will be Oct. 16 against Webster County.  Trigg will close out the season with a district road game at Union County Oct. 23 and the 139 Bowl at Caldwell County Oct. 30 ahead of the finale with Warren Central Nov. 6.

Mark Peach inherits a Trigg County program that was 6-5 last year and lost to Union County 26-13 in the playoffs.

The KHSAA voted to keep the postseason format the same, meaning the top four schools in each district will advance to playoffs. The first two rounds will feature district teams against each other like last year.
