
Lyon County wrapped up the top seed in the district tournament Tuesday with a 99-76 road win at Trigg County. The Lyons improved to 19-3 and remained unbeaten in 11 games against region opponents.
The up-tempo contest featured 16 three-pointers made and 147 shots between the teams. But Lyon County had more firepower among its scorers in getting the win.
The game was close early until Lyon County used a 15-1 run to take a 42-29 lead midway through the second quarter. Trigg never led in the second half. Lyon led by as many as 26 points early in the fourth quarter.
Lyon County shot 57-percent from the field in building a 52-40 halftime advantage despite not shooting a single free throw.
The Lyons finished 40 of 77 for 52-percent.
Jackson Shoulders hit 12 of 14 shots and finished with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Travis Perry just missed a triple-double with 24 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists.
They were two of four Lyons to reach double figures in the scoring column. Gunnar Bingham added 15 points, and Brady Shoulders added 14 points.
Trigg had five players score in double figures led by De’Von Ladd’s 19 points. Khyran Vaughn scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Jhaden Vaughn had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Trigg County shot 42-percent from the field but was just 8 of 33 behind the arc. The Wildcats nearly doubled their scoring output in a 24-hour period after suffering a 58-39 loss to Crittenden County Monday.
Lyon County just missed hanging 100 points on Trigg County for the first time since 1992 but won its eighth straight game over Trigg County and 10th in its last 11 meetings.
The win assures Lyon County the No. 1 seed in the district tournament with a 3-0 mark. They will play No. 4 seed Livingston Central Monday, March 15 at Trigg’s Wildcat Gym. Trigg is the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 seed Crittenden County.
Both Trigg and Lyon will play at 6th District opponents Thursday. The Wildcats will travel to Union County, while Lyon heads to Webster County.
