It is hard enough to win a high school basketball game if you go an entire quarter without a field goal. It is essentially impossible to do so if you are held without one for an entire half. That is exactly what happened to the Fort Campbell Falcons Thursday night at Christian County.
The Christian County Colonels held the Falcons without a point for the first quarter, and without a field goal until 40 seconds into the third quarter on their way to a 67-10 win Thursday night in Colonel Gym.
Christian County’s defense made it hard for Fort Campbell to bring the ball upcourt and then did not allow the Falcons any good looks in the opening half. And, when Fort Campbell missed the basket or turned the ball over, the Colonels were off and running in the other direction.
The Colonels used a balanced attack to jump out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead. That lead would grow to 40-1 by the end of the first half.
Christian County was able to get extensive playing time for several reserves in the second half, which played out quickly with the running clock in effect at the start of the half. The Colonel lead would be 56-6 as the third quarter came to an end, growing to 57 points by the end of the game.
Twelve different Christian County players found the scoring column. Derrell Bateman was the only player to hit double figures with ten points. Daverion Gilmore finished with nine points. Prince Northington and Breland Morrison added 8 points each.
Aidan Blaszkowski scored eight of Fort Campbell’s ten points to lead the Falcons.
Christian County moves to 8-18 over with the win and 3-1 in district play.
Fort Campbell falls to 2-17 and 0-5.
