Caldwell County’s girls saw their first action in two weeks, but dropped a pair of games Thursday in the Murray Lady Tiger Christmas Classic.
Caldwell opened the day with a 60-37 setback to Paducah Tilghman, then later bowed to host Murray High 51-35 in the consolation round.
The Lady Tigers will finish their stay in the tournament on Friday when they face Livingston Central at 10:30 a.m. in the seventh-place game.
Caldwell, now 3-8, seemingly got off to a good start on opening day, building a 15-10 lead in the second quarter against Tilghman.
But the Lady Tornado (6-1) scored the last nine points of the first half to go up 19-15.
Tilghman then upped its pressure after the break and capitalized on Caldwell’s turnovers to push its lead to 44-21 through three quarters.
The Lady Tigers got 16 points from A.J. Hollowell.
Tilghman was led by Quiniyah Shumpert’s 17 points. Diamond Gray had 15 and Myiesha Smith 12.
Caldwell then fell behind early in its second game of the day, trailing Murray 18-6 after one quarter.
Caldwell tried to get back in the contest in the second quarter. A steal and three-point play by Hollowell with just 4.1 seconds left in the half got Caldwell within 26-19 at the break.
However, Murray (4-5) extended the margin back to double figures in the third quarter, and never let Caldwell put together a run to get close after that.
Alyssa Daughrity had 15 points for Murray.
Hollowell again led Caldwell with 14.
It was Murray’s second win over Caldwell this season.
Friday’s schedule at Murray High School has Caldwell facing Livingston Central in the seventh-place game, Muhlenberg County taking on Murray for third place at noon, Murray against Todd County Central for fifth place at 1:30, then Paducah Tilghman and Mayfield for the championship at 3:00.
