Danny Trevathan was the 25th linebacker picked in the 2012 NFL draft when he was picked in the sixth round by the Denver Broncos. Trevathan went on to play 10 years in the NFL and had 741 tackles and eight interceptions in 117 games.

Wesley Woodyard was not picked in the 2008 draft but played 12 years in the NFL and finished with 951 tackles and eight interceptions in 180 games.

Those two former Kentucky linebackers came up when Kentucky associate coach Vince Marrow was asked what might happen with current UK linebackers DeAndre Square and Jacquez Jones in this weekend’s draft.

Neither are projected as likely draft picks despite having productive collegiate careers.

“Danny and Wesley both played 10 plus years in the NFL and Wesley was not even drafted and Danny went really late,” Marrow said. “Jacquez is big and smart.

“(Defensive coordinator) Brad White’s uses a complicated NFL scheme and him and Square ran it. I tell them both not to get overly caught up in the draft and what does or does not happen for them.”

Marrow’s advice to both is just sign with a team and show what they can do.

“Sometimes it is better not to get drafted in a late round and instead go to a team (as a free agent) that you pick,” Marrow said. “If a team puts money in front of you, that is when you know the team wants you.

“They are both very good football players. A lot of teams have asked about them. I don’t know if they will get drafted but they can play. They just need a chance and I think they will get it.”
