A doubleheader sweep for the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers Tuesday evening as they took a pair of five-inning games from the Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors.
The first five-inning game saw University Heights use a big first inning to take control of the game and then roll on from there to the 8-5 win over the Lady Warriors.
The Lady Warriors took a brief lead in the top of the first when Kailyn Johnson hit an RBI single to make it 1-0 one-half inning into the contest.
UHA responded quickly with a big rally in the bottom of the inning. The first five Lady Blazers to come to the plate reached base safely as UHA plated five runs in the inning. The big hits were an RBI single from Emily Dilday and RBI doubles from Trinity Luke, Mallory Ladd, and Amaryia Bass.
Madison Warren got a run back for HCA in the top of the third when she singled to drive in Hallie Zieg, cutting the lead to 5-2. Warren would score on a ground out later in the inning to make it 5-3.
A dropped third strike led to a UHA run in the fourth. The Lady Blazers then added some insurance in the bottom of the fourth, scoring runs on back-to-back doubles from Emily Dilday and Lillian Bruce.
HCA loaded the bases with one out and then scored two runs on a UHA error to cut the lead to 8-5. But, the rally, and the game, ended with back-to-back strikeouts.
Madison Warren was 1-2 with an RBI and two runs scored for HCA. Rachel Robson and Hallie Zieg were each 1-3 with a run scored.
Krista Keller, Trinity Luke, Emily Dilday, and Lillian Bruce had two hits each for the Lady Blazers. Dilday and Amaryia Bass each finished with two RBIs.
Mallory Ladd picked up the win in the circle for University Heights.
The second five-inning game was almost a carbon copy of the first.
HCA scored a run in the first to take an early 1-0 lead when Rachel Robson scored on a wild pitch.
University Heights came back with three runs in the bottom of the second to take a lead they would not give up for the rest of the game. After back-to-back errors from the Lady Warriors, Lillian Bruce drove in a run with a double. Later in the inning, Krista Keller and Mallory Ladd had RBI singles to put the Lady Blazers up 3-1 after two.
Heritage got a run back in the top of the third when Kailyn Stanley singled to score Rachel Robson, trimming the lead to 3-2.
UHA Scored again in the bottom of the third. Olivia Oakley was hit by a pitch with one out. Oakley then stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.
The Lady Blazers then hung a four spot on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning. They got an RBI single from Krista Keller and then took advantage of some fielding miscues by the Lady Warriors. And those four runs would turn out to be huge.
Heritage Christian then made one last charge at the Lady Blazers in the top of the fifth. A UHA error followed by two walks, and the Lady Warriors had bases loaded with nobody out. Kailyn Stanley singled to drive in two runs and cut the lead to 8-4. Hallie Zieg drove in another run with a groundout and the lead was down to 8-5.
Madison Warren then made things really interesting with a single to center, scoring Kailyn Stanley, and the lead was down to 8-6 with just one out. But the rally would end there, as UHA was able to hold on by their finger nails to pick up the win.
Rachel Robson and Kailyn Stanley had two hits each for HCA. Stanley also had three RBIs.
Krista Keller and Trinity Luke had two hits each for University Heights. Keller, along with Mallory Ladd, had two RBIs for the Lady Blazers.
Mallory Ladd went the distance in the circle for UHA to pick up her second win of the night.
