Stephen Haile has continued the tradition at Henderson County.
Not only are the Lady Colonels the 2nd Region champions for the sixth year in a row, but the 2nd Region Basketball Coaches Association 2023-24 Coach of the Year award remains in the Haile family as well.
Jeff Haile was named Coach of the Year last season after wrapping up a 37-year high school coaching career by leading Henderson to the Sweet 16. The Lady Colonels reached the state semifinals a year ago.
The elder Haile is in the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame with 821 career victories.
His son, Stephen, took over the Henderson program this year after two years as girls’ head coach at Daviess County. Before that, he was an assistant on his father’s staff at Henderson.
After a 4-4 start to this season, the Lady Colonels now own a 25-7 mark heading into the state tourney at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Henderson will face Owensboro at 12:30 p.m. Central time Thursday in first-round action.
The Lady Colonels, who beat Hopkins County Central 55-33 Saturday night for the 2nd Region title, have won five straight and 15 of their last 16 games.
Stephen Haile was presented his award following the regional championship game Saturday night in Cadiz.
