Chloe Papineau’s big game helped Webster County pick up an 8-2 softball victory at Caldwell County on Friday.
In the pitching circle, Papineau struck out 14 and surrendered only two base hits. She walked just one and did not allow an earned run.
In the batter’s box, Papineau was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four runs batted in as Webster improved to 15-7.
Papineau doubled home two runs in the top of the fifth inning to give the Lady Trojans a 2-0 lead. She then hammered a two-run homer to centerfield as part of a six-run sixth that put Webster in command.
Both Caldwell runs came with two outs in the bottom of the sixth after an error had extended the inning. Adley Lewis doubled home a run. Maci Tyler then singled into right to bring in Lewis. But the Lady Tigers could only get as close as 8-2.
For Webster, Alyssa Cartwright went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Mallory Leath was also 2-for-4. Mylee Whitledge went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Caldwell was without three of its normal starters in the contest.
