Marcis Ponder, one of the nation’s best bigs in the 2026 recruiting class, is now part of the Grind Session that will be playing several events in Kentucky during the 2024-25 season.
The 7-foot, 300-pound center is transferring to the Grind Session’s West Oaks Academy for his junior season after playing last season for the Cold Hearts in the Overtime Elite. He was also named to the OTE team that represented the United States this summer at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament Finals in Berlin, Germany.
“Marcis is a great kid, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family,” said Grind Session CEO Scott Waldrop. “Joining our circuit reaffirms his commitment to his craft and future. We’re excited to be part of his journey.”
Ponder has multiple nicknames — The Show, Baby Shaq and Lil Shaq — because of his playing style that obviously appeals to colleges because his offer list includes Alabama, Florida State, Illinois, and Kansas.
He is a dominant rim protector and a powerful inside scorer. On3 has him ranked 29th in the 2026 recruiting class.
“Marcis Ponder is a physical presence. It is hard to ignore when he steps on the floor with his frame. When he plays, he shows off his explosion. He is quick off his feet, finishing consistently around the basket and through contact. Ponder has passer-friendly hands and is a good area rebounder,” On3’s recruiting profile of Ponder said.
