After having their struggles early on, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels made a run on Saturday and reached the championship match of the Copper Bracket of the 2024 Apollo Summer Slam. This year’s event was played at the Owensboro Convention Center.
The Lady Rebels opened play Friday evening taking on the host Apollo E-Gals. Todd Central got off to a good start winning the opening set 25-13, but then Apollo came roaring back to take the next two 25-7 and 15-4 to claim the match 2-1.
Up next was a match against Bullitt East. This one was all Lady Chargers as Bullitt East took the match in straight sets 25-13 and 25-17.
The Lady Rebels closed out pool play Saturday morning with a match against Evansville Christian. Evansville Christian took the match in straight sets 25-17 and 25-13.
With the results of pool play, Todd County Central was placed in the Copper Division bracket.
The Lady Rebels picked up a win in the bracket quarterfinals taking down Clarksville Northeast 25-22 and 25-17.
In the Copper Division semifinals, Todd County Central faced off against Madisonville-North Hopkins. This one went three sets. The Lady Maroons took the opening set 25-19. Todd Central came back to win the second 25-16. The Lady Rebels then closed out the match winning the third set 15-6.
The win sent the Lady Rebels into the Copper Division championship match against Russell County. The Lady Lakers ended up winning the Copper bracket with a straight-set win over Todd County Central 25-17 and 25-14.
The Lady Rebels are now 2-5 on the season and will head back home to take on Franklin-Simpson in a 13th District match Tuesday evening.
