UHA, Madisonville Among Contenders for Girls’ Regional

Henderson County’s girls have won the last three 2nd Region soccer championships, but University Heights Academy is the top-rated team in the region according to the KHSAA RPI.

Those two teams could meet in the semifinals of the 2nd Region tournament, which will be played next week at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.

Henderson (13-6) is the No. 2 seed and owns a 3-1 win over UHA (14-3) this season.

The regional tournament begins Monday at 5:30 p.m. with Trigg County (14-5), rated No. 4 by the RPI, taking on Union County (2-16-1). The late game Monday at 7:15 features Madisonville (11-6-1), the No. 3-rated team in the region, and Hopkinsville (13-9-1).

The first round continues on Tuesday with University Heights facing Hopkins County Central (12-7-1) at 5:30.

The 7:15 game Tuesday pits Henderson County and Lyon County (9-9).

The semifinals are Wednesday. Monday’s winners will meet at 5:30 while Tuesday’s victors square off at 7:15.

The championship game is Thursday at 6:00.

Admission is $10.
