
Less than 24 hours after being held without a field goal in the second half of a loss to Logan County, the Trigg County Wildcats responded with 25 field goals – including 11 from behind the arc – to take third place in the H&H Holiday Classic at Logan County on Saturday.
Caleb Fogle hit three of Trigg’s five 3-pointers in the opening frame as the Wildcats built a 20-17 lead.
They extended their advantage to 43-28 by halftime behind eight points each in the second quarter from Landon Swann and Davaree Gude.
Fogle knocked down a pair of threes in the third quarter as East Robertson cut into the Trigg lead to get to within 54-48 heading into the final quarter.
Slaton Carter scored a career-high 19 points for the Wildcats, with seven coming in the final quarter as Trigg was able to more than double their scoring output from the previous night’s 73-33 loss to Logan County. Fogle also had 19 points for the Wildcats and Gude added 17 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Carter contributed eight rebounds in addition to his scoring output.
Trigg County shot 62% from the field (37 of 59) and was 11 of 19 behind the arc. The Wildcats also did a better job of handling the basketball, with only 14 turnovers.
The Trigg win over East Robertson came in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Kayden Perry led the Indians from Cross Plains, Tennessee with 22 points.
Trigg County will travel to southcentral Kentucky after Christmas to play in the Edmonson County Double Dogs Caveland Classic – their first appearance in the tournament since 1994.
The Wildcats will play Apollo on Thursday afternoon at 2:00. Other teams in the event are Mayfield, Ohio County, Edmonson County, Allen County-Scottsville, Ballard Memorial, and John Hardin.
