Lady Rebels Hold Off Ohio County 46-42

Alexis Taylor and Ja’Mya Kay carried the scoring load and the Todd County Central girls’ basketball team held off a late charge from Ohio County to prevail 46-42 on Friday at the Rafferty’s/Double Dogs Caveland Classic at Edmonson County.

The Lady Rebels bounced back from a lopsided loss to Marshall County in the tournament opener on Thursday to improve to 6-4.

Todd Central opened up a 14-11 lead after the first quarter behind five points from Taylor, and Kay provided five in the second to help the Lady Rebels to a 24-20 halftime advantage.

It continued to be a defensive struggle after the break, with Kay posting six points in the third quarter.  Ella Decker accounted for all seven of Ohio County’s points in the frame, and the Lady Rebel lead was eight points with a quarter to play.

Taylor scored seven in the fourth to finish with a game-high 17.  Emerson Gray scored six to lead the Lady Eagles’ comeback attempt, but the Lady Rebels held on for a four-point victory.

Todd Central will wrap up play at the tournament on Saturday with a matchup with John Hardin.  The 7-3 Lady Bulldogs opened the weekend with a 45-38 loss to Muhlenberg County.
