Some nights everything just seems to work.
Caldwell County could do very little wrong Friday night while storming past 7th District rival Hopkins County Central 84-53 at the CAB gym in Princeton.
The Tigers had lots of motivation after falling to Lyon County in the 2nd Region All A Classic championship on Tuesday as well as losing to Hopkins Central last month in the Paducah St. Mary Christmas Classic.
An anticipated tight rematch lasted for about 4 minutes.
With Hopkins Central up 7-6, Caldwell erupted for a 15-2 run to take the lead for good.
The Tiger offense was red hot for much of the night. Caldwell built a 27-14 advantage after 8 minutes and led 53-26 at halftime.
Caldwell reached the mercy rule for a running clock late in the third quarter when the difference hit 35 points at 76-41.
It was 78-45 through three stanzas as the Tigers earned an important district triumph.
Caldwell (11-6 overall, 2-0 district) had five players score in double figures.
Jaydarius Wilson had 18 points and nine rebounds while Pax Aikins added 17 points. Collin Whittington scored 15 points. Kam Wilson totaled 12 points and nine rebounds while Daelyn Lander had 12 points and eight boards.
Hopkins Central (7-7, 0-3) got 16 points from Davonyae Butcher and nine from Lake Sumner. But the Storm could not put together a run after falling behind in the opening frame.
Hopkins Central still holds a 32-30 advantage all-time against Caldwell.
The Tigers return to action Saturday afternoon with a trip to Louisville to play DeSales.
The Storm has another district date coming up on Monday when it hosts Madisonville-North Hopkins.
