The Christian County track and field team had a strong showing at the season-opening Muhlenberg County Invitational on Saturday.
The Colonels finished second to Paducah Tilghman in the 15-team field. Tilghman’s total of 86 points was 10 more than Christian County and 17 points more than third-place Hopkinsville.
Christian County went 1-3 in the 100-yard dash with Kristen Johnson winning in 11.15 seconds, edging Paducah Tilghman’s Kylen Ware by .07 seconds. Satona Bailey, who set the school record last year at 10.97 seconds, was third in 11.27 seconds.
Ware came back to win the 200 meters in 22.03 seconds, with Johnson second in 22.37 seconds and Bailey fourth in 22.95 seconds. Johnson’s time was the second-fastest in school history, and Bailey’s time was the 10th fastest.
Johnson scored his third top-5 finish with a fourth-place run in the 400 meters in 54.57 seconds.
Christian County also won the 800-meter relay in 1:34.72, finished third in the 1600-meter relay, and was fourth in the 3200-meter relay in 9:33.70.
Wyatt Fleming was sixth in the 400-meter run in 56.11 seconds.
Cayden Cline was eighth in the 3200-meter run in 11:28.70.
Bryce Hamlin was 16th in the 3200-meter run in 12:39.10.
Ethan Cooper was 34th in the 800-meter run in 2:52.82.
Richard Brown was 36th in the 800-meter run in 2:53.80.
Conner Roberts was 35th in the 1600-meter run in 6:56.92.
Levi Johnson was 37th in the 1600-meter run in 7:02.91
In the field events, Christopher McCarley was second in the discus throw with a distance of 139-1 and finished second in the shot put at 45-7.5. McCarley’s discus throw was third-best in school history and just over three feet off his school-record distance set at last year’s region meet.
Matthew Reeves was ninth in the high jump with a height of 5-6.
Frank Irving was 16th in the high jump at five feet.
Marlee Reeves was 18th in the long jump at 15-1.5.
DeAnthony Maxey was 19th in the long jump at 14-11.5.
Levar Daniel was 22nd in the long jump at 14-3.75.
Jimmarion Byrd was 42nd in the discus throw at 62-3.
Chris Quarles was 43rd in the discus throw at 60-8 and 21st in the shot put at 32-5.
