Landon Shugars’ chest was red and bloody. His back had cuts and was bleeding. His arms were battered and bruised.

He called it, “A dream come true!”

The Lyon County High School senior made his professional wrestling debut Saturday night at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.

“Ever since I was little, all I’ve ever known is wrestling. It’s what I eat, it’s what I sleep, it’s what I breathe,” Shugars said leading up to the event.

“It’s just, I’m the kid at school that like, oh, that’s the wrestling kid. Yeah. I’m the kid that likes wrestling.”

But Shugars just didn’t jump in the ring. He had to train. He even has his own ring at home to work on his craft.

“There’s many schools around,” he noted. “I got in with the World Wrestling Alliance. They used to run shows in Eddyville a couple years ago and I went to one of their shows and I seen it and I was like, this looks like something I would love to do.

“And I got in contact with them and I started filming their shows, and for filming their shows, I get training and I’ve been training for coming up on a year now. And just under a year, I’m having my first match and it’s just, it’s cool.”

The World Wrestling Alliance put on an exciting night of professional wrestling, but most of those in attendance were there for the main event.

Shugars met WWA owner CCW in what was billed as a Lyon’s Den Street Fight.

The loudest pop of the night came when Shugars’ music hit and he came through the curtain, high-fiving fans as he circled the ring.

In a physical match, Shugars was twice put through wooden doors and sustained several chair shots to his back.

He put CCW through a table in a move from the top turnbuckle.

Shugars brought down the house when he made the pin — one, two, three! — to win his first match.

Shugars, who kept a trash can that was used in the match as a memento, was expectedly sore after the match, but still stuck around to sign autographs and take photos with friends, family and fans.

“I couldn’t have had it any better,” he noted. “It was what I wanted for my first match in front of my family, my hometown and everyone who’s ever supported me.”

Shugars expects to continue in the WWA promotion.

“Well, I’m hoping to continue chasing this crazy dream and continue doing what I love with all my friends out there who had a hell of a show tonight.”

Saturday’s wrestling was a fundraiser for Lyon County High School.
