Johnson, McCarley Lock Up Bids for State Track Meet

Christian County had two athletes automatically qualify for the state track and field meet, with several others waiting to see if they receive at-large bids following Thursday’s Class 3A Region 1 Track and Field Meet at McCracken County.

Kristin Johnson and Satona Bailey finished 2-3 in the 100-meter dash. Johnson ran an 11.09 while Bailey was right behind at 11.16. Marshall County’s Sam Morgan clipped them both at the finish with a clocking of 10.87 seconds.

In the 200 meters, Bailey was fourth (22.78) and Johnson was fifth (22.92).

Cayden Cline came in sixth place in the 1600-meter run in a personal best time of 4:50.36.

Wyatt Fleming captured eighth place in the 400-meter dash in 54.59 seconds.

Bryce Hamlin was 12th in the 3200-meter run in 13:01.

Seventh grader Lucas Coats was 14th in the 1600-meter run in 5:33.66.

Ethan Cooper was 15th in the 800-meter dash in 2:41.83.

Richard Brown came in 16th place in the 800-meter dash in 2:56.24.

The 800-meter relay team finished in third place in 1:32.58.

The 400-meter relay team came in fifth place in 46.89 seconds.

The 1600-meter relay also placed fifth, completing four circuits around the track in a season-best time of 3:43.60.

The 3200-meter relay team came in sixth place with a time of 8:57.68.

In the field events, Christopher McCarley had a pair of second-place finishes in the shot put (47 feet) and discus throw (143-11).

Iyobosa Ogbes was fourth in the high jump at 5-10.

Jordan Morton was seventh in the long Jump (19-07.75)

Marlee Reeves was eighth in the long jump (18-09).

Matthew Reeves finished eighth in the high jump at 5-4.

Chris Quarles was 13th in the discus throw (89-05) and 15th in the shot put at 30 feet.

As a team, Christian County came in sixth place out of ten teams with 52 points. Marshall County won the region title with 132 points, with McCracken County finishing in second place with 101 points.

The start of the meet was delayed 45 minutes due to lightning that accompanied a storm that moved through the area. Midway through the third event, there was another hour-long delay due to 30 to 40 mph wind gusts that rolled through the area.

The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet on May 31 at the University of Kentucky. The next 10 times/distances/heights from across the state at the region will also advance. Those will be known by the end of the week.
