Kentucky commit Maddyn Greenway didn’t make the initial Team USA U19 team to play in the  FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup in Brno, Czechia, but she certainly made her presence felt in the competition Saturday in Team USA’s first game.

Greenway was a late addition to the team and made her USA Basketball competitive debut Saturday along with teammates Sydney Douglas and Kate Harpring — all three were among the first subs in the game midway through the first quarter.

Greenway played 21 minutes, 8 seconds and went 3-for-7 from the field — she hit her only 3-point attempt — and 3-for-6 at the foul line. However, she also had a team-high five assists along with three steals and two defensive rebounds as her all-around versatility and playmaking was on full display.

The USA women set a single-game U19 scoring record, breaking their own mark of 129 points set in 2005 and 2021. The USA is looking for its 11th overall and fourth consecutive gold medal in this competition.

Team USA will play again today against Hungary at 2:15 p.m. EST on YouTube.com/FIBA.

  1. Some very tall timber to cut down ie… Gamecocks and Tigers, but I’m thinking Coach Brooks may get to the promise land before the Pope. Best of all worlds – they do it simultaneously 🎉🎉.

    1. I doubt that very seriously. Brooks is a great coach and might have had the biggest turnaround in women's college basketball. I don't see Kentucky winning a championship in women's basketball until the recruits that he's getting now are sophomores and juniors at least. He's getting 5* recruits. But women's basketball historically takes longer to build, but the good thing is women stick around longer and don't jump in the portal as much as the men's side. If we could have kept Silva that would have made us a national championship contender maybe this year probably more realistically 26-27 or 27-28 you will see womens basketball peak. Pope could easily win one this year. I think if Robinson and half our team wasnt hurt. We would have won a couple more games and maybe went to the elite 8 or final 4 if we would have had Kriisa and Robinson healthy we could have made a final 4 run. With them both on the team we beat Duke and Gonzaga but we didn't look as good towards the end of the year.
