Kentucky Volleyball senior outside hitter Eva Hudson was named the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Hudson had a record-setting week for Kentucky, averaging a mammoth 5.63 kills per set over two matches that the Wildcats won, and set a new program record with 28 kills in a three-set match. UK beat No. 3 Louisville on Thursday night and backed up that performance with a sweep of Washington on Saturday afternoon.
Her performance Saturday versus the Huskies marked the first time a player in NCAA Volleyball had 28 kills in a three-set match since Cincinnati’s Jordan Thompson did it in 2019 according to ESPN’s Stats and Information Department. The UK record Hudson broke was in place since Leah Edmond’s 22 kill performance in a three-set win over Missouri in 2018 on the road. Hudson hit .481 in UK’s sweep of Washington where she only had three errors on 52 swings.
Hudson added 17 kills and a career-high 21 digs on Thursday night as Kentucky beat No. 3 Louisville on the road in five sets. Hudson in the fifth set alone had four kills, hitting .850 in the fifth with a solo stuff as well, as UK took command of the set. The senior from Ft. Wayne, Indiana hit .324 for the eight high-level sets that Kentucky played on the week and logged 45 total kills with only 11 errors.
Kentucky opens SEC play this week with two home matches, with South Carolina coming to Lexington on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET followed by a Friday night showdown with Georgia inside Historic Memorial Coliseum. Tickets for both matches are available at UKathletics.com/tickets.
