
A rough afternoon for the Madisonville-North Hopkins golf team produced a silver lining as Treyson Raymer qualified for next week’s KHSAA state first round.
Raymer finished tied for third place with a 4-over-par 75, which included two birdies on each side of the course. Tyler Bryan finished tied for 16th place with 10 over par 81. He produced two birdies on the front nine.
Jake Witherspoon also tied for 16th place with an 81. His scorecard showed two birdies for the afternoon.
Spencer Munchbach and Max Clayton each shot a 15 over par 86, which tied them for 42nd place.
The Maroons were part of a back-and-forth battle for the second team qualifying spot for the state first round, as five teams were separated by five shots for most of the afternoon.
Owensboro Catholic won the region championship with a team score of 311, which was five shots better than second-place Henderson County. Both teams will advance to next week’s KHSAA state first round at the Calvert City Country Club.
Muhlenberg County’s Cy Tudor and Owensboro Catholic’s Vince Hayden tied for top honors with a 3-over-par 74, with Tudor taking the individual title on the second playoff hole. Friday’s weather at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club was in stark contrast to Monday’s girls’ tournament at Henderson County, which was delayed five hours due to weather.
Tuesday featured mild temperatures and no rain.
